A new product for the upcoming holiday....St. Patrick's Day

Many people celebrate St. Patrick's Day without REALLY knowing who St. Patrick is. I created a simple paper bag puppet that children can create with a simple story of who St. Patrick is. I have made these before in my classroom and nothing compares to making puppets. It is simply their favorite thing to do.

Another great resource I have found for basic information on Saint is the Happy Saints Ebooks. They have three volumes which all have different Saints and very cute and usable Saint clip art. This is the website where you can find these products. Happy Saints Books

Roll and Bump

I Love Freebies

I love it when I find freebies. I love it even more when I find freebies and my student love them too. This is one of those moments. Students love "Bump." They love it with math and with High Frequency Words too. But what makes it even better is when I don't have to make it. 

Below is a "Bump" game that is free, in color and black and white. All students do is roll two dice and add them together. They get to place a connecting cube on the sum. If another student rolls and comes up with the same sum they get to bump them off and take their place. However, if a student gets the same sum twice they get to stack two connecting cube and now they are safe.

Religious Education

Not only am I a first grade teacher, but I also volunteer my time to teach Sacramental Preparation to our communities 2nd graders. We have completed our reconciliation and now we are moving onto preparing for receiving Eucharist. This week we focused on using the bible. As many of us "cradle Catholics" know, we don't always have the best understanding of the bible, none the less how to use it. So using a resource I received as part of my Catechesis training last summer, I created reference bookmarks for the bible. Not only did they help the kids, the parents found them really helpful, and even said "hey, I get it now!"

Here is what is looks like. The pink is the Old Testament and the blue are the New Testament. Easy to use right?

The Eucharist classes are just as much for the parents as it is for the kids. If the parents understand these topics then they can better explain them to their kids in the future. Because we all know that PARENTS are the first religious educators of their children.
